We stayed the night at a place called Ponto Lobos. It's kind of a shiz hole, but if photographed from the right angle, it doesn't look so bad. I was kind of obsessed with the penguins that loiter around, waiting for scraps from the fishermen.
It's depressing that two people got to correct you on the misidentification of pelicans before I could. But I won't let that stop me . . . If I had been first, I would have gone with something like:
"Those must be the elusive beach penguins of Mexican mythological lore.", or
"Did these penguins lose their GPS devices and accidentally fly north to the Baja beaches for the winter?", or
"I'm no ichthynologist, but [insert any number of smart-aleck comments pointing out the obvious differences between flightless ice-dwellers and pouch-beaked beach birds]."
Sigh. I'll just have to be quicker on the draw next time.
